Postdoctoral Fellows
We're hiring: Postdoctoral Fellow in Virology
Michailidis Lab | Laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology, Department of Pediatrics, Emory University School of Medicine
|
The Michailidis Lab is seeking a postdoctoral fellow with a strong virology background to drive studies of virus–host interactions. We use state-of-the-art targeted and whole-genome CRISPR screens, bulk and single-cell transcriptomics, and a broad set of molecular, virological, and biochemical assays across HBV and HIV. The lab has a special interest in liver-related studies, including viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease, and immunometabolism, employing advanced primary human hepatocyte culture systems and humanized liver chimeric mice.

What you'll do
• Design, conduct, and evaluate experiments, and develop new ideas that advance ongoing research
• Apply CRISPR screening, transcriptomics, and virological assays to identify and validate host factors
• Carry projects from cell culture into primary human hepatocytes and humanized mouse models
• Prepare and publish manuscripts and present work at meetings
Required
• PhD in an appropriate field
• Strong background in virology, with hands-on experience in cell culture and animal (mouse) studies
• Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills
Preferred (not all necessary)
• Prior research in HIV and/or HBV virology — a strong advantage
• Molecular cloning (mutagenesis, lentiviral vectors); cell culture of cell lines and primary cells
• Mouse experience (handling, tissue harvest)
• Molecular biology methods (Western blot, microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA)
• Bioinformatics (RNA-Seq analysis); assay development (biochemical, cell-based, medium- and high-throughput)
Details
• Location: Health Sciences Research Building II, Emory University, Atlanta, GA. In person; remote work is not an option.
• Term: Initial appointment of one year, renewable based on performance and funding; appointments cannot exceed five years.
• Salary: Follows the NIH postdoctoral salary model, commensurate with years of relevant experience.
